Frequently Asked Questions

What is the McKesson PAC?

Created in 1980, the McKesson PAC is a voluntary, non-partisan political action committee. Registered with the U.S. Federal Election Commission (FEC), the PAC allows McKesson employees to pool personal, voluntary financial contributions to support candidates for federal office who support issues important to our business. Federal law prohibits corporations such as McKesson from making contributions to candidates for federal office.

In its over 30 year history, the PAC has seen tremendous growth in participation and dollars raised.

Why does McKesson have a PAC?

The PAC protects and advocates the interests of McKesson by supporting candidates for federal office who understand the concerns and interests we share as McKesson employees. When government decisions positively impact the company, we, the employees and shareholders, benefit as well.

Who is eligible to join or contribute to the PAC?

Under the Federal Election Campaign Act, membership in a political action committee is limited to exempt employees who are U.S. citizens or green card holders with permanent resident status living in the United States. Exempt employees are those who are paid on a salary basis and who have policymaking, managerial, professional or supervisory responsibilities.

The PAC may accept contributions from non-exempt employees, but the committee may not solicit or inform this class that such contributions are acceptable.

How is the PAC managed?

The PAC Board of Trustees is a group of 10-18 senior level McKesson employees representing each operating company and the corporate staff.  The members are nominated by each operating company president and formally appointed by McKesson's CEO.  Board members are responsible for reviewing and selecting candidates for the PAC to support; providing information and promoting membership; overseeing fund distribution; and ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards.

How are employees' PAC contributions used?

Every dollar employees donate to the McKesson Employees' PAC is used to support the campaigns of candidates approved by the PAC Board. By law, the corporation is allowed to pay for all PAC operating expenses.

Who does the PAC support?

The McKesson Employees' PAC supports the election of reasonable, pro-business, Democratic, Republican, and Independent candidates who understand our business and share our healthcare vision.
